THE MAKING OF AN OBJECT
At PRISAKARU CERAMICS, every object begins long before glass takes its final form. Each piece emerges from an artistic idea inspired by nature, light, memory and human experience. Through glass, we explore the emotional connection between a person, an object and the space it inhabits. The creation of every vase is a dialogue between artistic vision and craftsmanship — where traditional glassmaking techniques become a medium for contemporary expression. We invite you to follow the journey of an object: from the first sketch to the moment it becomes part of a new story.
IT ALL BEGINS WITH AN IDEA
Every PRISAKARU CERAMICS object is conceived by artist and founder Olga Prisakaru. The creative process often begins with an observation: the movement of wind through grass, the texture of stone, the reflection of light on water or a personal memory transformed into form. Through sketches and experimentation, an initial idea gradually evolves into an object with its own character, atmosphere and visual language. Once the concept is defined, it is developed in collaboration with master glassmakers, whose expertise helps translate the artistic vision into material form while preserving its essence at every stage of creation.
FROM DRAWING TO FORM
Each object requires a unique mould created specifically for its design. Wood and metal are used to build the forms that define the future silhouette and proportions of the piece. Some moulds are handcrafted from hardwood, while others are produced in metal to accommodate more complex sculptural forms. Precision is essential, as every mould becomes the foundation through which an artistic idea is translated into glass.
THE TRANSFORMATION OF GLASS
Glass is a living material. Under intense heat exceeding 1,500°C, raw materials transform into a glowing molten mass that responds to movement, temperature, gravity and touch. At this stage, the object begins to emerge through the skill of master glassmakers. Guided by breath, fire, and experience, the material gradually acquires its final form. No two pieces develop in exactly the same way. Subtle variations created during the process become part of the object's individuality.
THE HUMAN TOUCH
Once cooled, each piece undergoes extensive hand-finishing. The surface is refined, polished, and carefully worked to reveal the depth of the glass and its relationship with light. Rather than pursuing industrial perfection, we embrace the nuances that arise through handcraft. Texture, subtle irregularities, and traces of the making process become part of the object's identity and artistic expression. For us, these details are not imperfections — they are evidence of creation.
THE FINAL STAGE
Every finished object is carefully inspected before leaving the workshop. Each vase receives its own name and certificate of authenticity, confirming its origin and handcrafted creation. The object is then prepared for its journey into a new environment — whether a private collection, an architectural interior, or a curated design space. Because for us, a vase is not simply an object. It is a material story shaped by nature, craftsmanship and human experience.
